Inspiring engagement through direct mail and digital outreach

The Challenge

King Conservation District’s (KCD’s) annual board of supervisors elections aren’t listed on the King County Elections ballot, so the special purpose district must run its own election. KCD asked Trio Group to design, print, and mail over 750,000 postcards to households in its service area and propose an innovative digital marketing campaign to bring more awareness to the election.

The Solution

King Conservation District (KCD) had run its election postcard program for a few years before, but they had never invested in digital channels. We ‘stacked’ digital outreach on top of direct mail to increase the reach of the campaign and build brand recognition for both KCD and its mission.

Design & Copywriting

Our team designed and wrote copy that focused on the agency’s customer avatar’s desire to conserve and enjoy King County’s natural resources while communicating the value and ease of participating in the election. Rich images of KCD’s program areas and bold headlines inspired voters to engage.

Print & Mail

While our facilities printed the postcards, our mail house cleaned and sorted voter records to deliver only one postcard to each unique household in KCD’s service area.

Digital Advertising

We activated USPS Informed Delivery, which provided a digital touchpoint for households that received the postcard. Despite both Google and Meta prohibiting political advertising on their platforms in Washington State, we created lead generation and awareness digital outreach to support the campaign and drive traffic to KCD’s online properties.

The Results

We developed a compelling print and digital campaign that helped King Conservation District reach hundreds of thousands of voters and inspire them to action.

750,000+ mail pieces delivered.

218,000+ recipients opened their USPS Informed Delivery email with campaign graphics.

200,000+ King County residents reached through Google and Meta online ads.
